The good General
here is quite a doozie! Everything that looks like leather
on this display IS real leather, patterned from the original Ursus
costume parts. The only parts that are not are the toes of the boots.
We made those the traditional Planet of the Apes way (molded rubber), even
though our cobblers insisted they could do the toes in leather too!
Like the AUTHENTIC
GORILLA RESTORATION, the
face consists of a casting of the James Daly Gorilla, only resculpted with
an open mouth for Ursus to deliver his "The only GOOD human, is a DEAD
human" speech. And not to be out-done by the boot department, the sculpting
and fabrication departments took the mouth details to the extreme one this
one by adding a casting of an open mouth (with lips, teeth, and even a
tongue and inner mouth) which was placed behind the Ursus muzzle and chin.
The lips and teeth were "blacked out" as they would be on a real actor
and the tongue and inner mouth were painted a dark shade of flesh.
Hey, you never know how close some people will to go to get a good look,
right? We are just making sure there's something to see. (Now we'll
just have to wait for all of the tabloid stories to hit the news stands
about a freeze dried man being used as the mannequin for this display!)
There are over 300
nickel plated armor plates (molded from original Ursus armor) with some
600 brass buttons specially lengthened that attached the armor plates to
the vest, shoulder covers, and gauntlets. Needless to say, "It's
quite the heavy outfit for quite the heavy character!"
The body is a custom
flexible mannequin, thoroughly reinforced so it can support the weight
of all that leather and armor, and is fully position-able, just in case
we wanted to put him on a horse mannequin for added effect!
The shirt and pants are
ORIGINAL Ursus movie wardrobe items. We like the feeling we get knowing
that along with the other recasted original details used to create this
display, there is quite a bit of original Ursus wardrobe bloodline alive
in this one.
(And yes, it was
hard to let this piece go when it was finished too!)
So where does this one
reside now? Twentieth Century Fox purchased it and the good General
now stands guard and greets guests entering the FOX ARCHIVES MUSEUM in
Sidney, Australia.
