We posed the mannequin to match many of the images of the rebelling gorillas in publicity photos and lobby cards from the film. There were three different color jumpsuits used on the apes for Conquest: Green for the Chimps, Red for the Gorillas, and Yellow for the Orangutans. The Green ones are the most common. You used to be able to find one or two on eBay every month for about $300. Nowadays, consider yourself lucky if you can gnab one for under a grand. The RED ones are very rare and when one turns up, it usually sells for close to a king's ransom. The Yellow suits? FORGET IT!!!
Rumor has it that only 3 to 6 were used in the film and they have long
since been sucked up by savvy collectors who would surely rather face a
grueling death in the Forbidden Zone,
Authentic CONQUEST jumpsuits do not have WESTERN COSTUME labels in them as Western did not make the outfits. The jumpsuits were originally purchased by the film's costumers from K-mart & JC Penny's. No attempts were made to make the trademark ape-feet for the Conquest apes. Instead, common "loafers" and slippers were painted or dyed to match the colors of the jumpsuits. BUDGET!!! Because of the different sources and suppliers
the jumpsuits came from, the quality of the textile varies in the suits,
as do the dye lots. You can see an example of this in the lobby
card image as there ape-pears to be two different red jumpsuits side-by-side.
Many of the CONQUEST jumpsuits were also used in episodes of TV's "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" series.
